How to Use This Recipe Converter Calculator:

The Recipe Converter tool helps you scale ingredient quantities for recipes by either multiplying/dividing the quantities or adjusting portions based on the original and desired sizes. Here’s how to use it effectively:

Recipe Converter and Multiplier

Basics

Ensure you have a web browser and access to the HTML file containing the Recipe Converter tool.

Input Ingredient List:

Copy and paste the ingredients section of your recipe into the text area labeled “Type or Paste Ingredients”.

Each ingredient should be on a separate line.

Convert By Multiplier

  1. Select Multiplier Tab: Click on the “Convert By Multiplier” tab to switch to the multiplier mode.
  2. Enter Multiplier: In the “Enter Multiplier” input box, type the number by which you want to multiply or divide the ingredient quantities.
  3. Choose Operation:
    • Click “Multiply (×)” to multiply the quantities.
    • Click “Divide (÷)” to divide the quantities.
  4. Result Display:
    • The converted ingredients will be displayed in the “Converted Recipe” section.

Example:

Input:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Multiplier: 2

Operation: Multiply (×)

Output:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar

Convert By Servings

  1. Select Servings Tab: Click on the “Convert By Servings” tab to switch to the portion mode.
  2. Enter Original and Desired Sizes:
    • In the “Original Servings” input box, type the number of servings the recipe currently makes.
    • In the “Desired Servings” input box, type the number of servings you want the recipe to make.
  3. Convert: Click the “Convert” button to adjust the ingredient quantities based on the new serving size.
  4. Result Display: The converted ingredients will be displayed in the “Converted Recipe” section.

Example:

Input:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Original Servings: 4

Desired Servings: 8

Output:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar

Clearing Inputs and Outputs

Clear Input List: Click the “Clear List” button to remove all text from the input text area.

Clear Output: Click the “Clear” button in the “Converted Recipe” section to remove all text from the output area.

Copying Converted Ingredients

Copy Ingredients: Click the “Copy Ingredients” button to copy the converted ingredient list to your clipboard.

Toggle Between Fraction and Decimal

Toggle Button:

Click the “Toggle Fraction/Decimal” button to switch between fractional and decimal representations of the quantities.

Example:

  • Fraction Mode: 1/4 cup sugar
  • Decimal Mode: 0.25 cup sugar

Handling Errors

If you enter an invalid multiplier or serving size, an error message will be displayed, and the corresponding input box will be highlighted in red.

Make sure all necessary inputs are filled with valid numbers to proceed with the conversion.
