Chicken Smash Tacos
- 500 g ground chicken
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning or dried oregano
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 8 small flour tortillas
- 1 tbsp olive oil for cooking
Caesar Topping
- 1 head romaine lettuce finely shredded
- ⅓ cup Caesar dressing or more to taste
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese shaved
- 1 hard-boiled egg grated, optional
- 2 tsp fresh chives chopped
Garlic Croutons
- 100 g sourdough bread cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 ½ tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 clove garlic minced
- ¼ tsp flaky salt
- ⅛ tsp cracked black pepper
- 1 tsp dried oregano
Make the Croutons
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) or 180°C fan-forced. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
In a bowl, toss the sourdough cubes with olive oil, garlic, salt, black pepper, and oregano until evenly coated.
Spread onto the prepared tray and bake for 20 minutes, turning once halfway through, until golden and crisp.
Prepare the Chicken
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
Spread about 3 tablespoons of the chicken mixture evenly onto one side of each tortilla, creating a thin layer.
Cook the Smash Tacos
Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Place a tortilla into the skillet with the chicken side facing down. Press firmly with a spatula so the chicken makes full contact with the pan.
Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the chicken is browned and cooked through.
Flip and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until the tortilla is lightly charred. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.
Assemble and Serve
In a large bowl, toss the shredded romaine lettuce with Caesar dressing and shaved Parmesan.
Top with grated hard-boiled egg, crispy croutons, and chopped chives.
Pile the Caesar salad mixture onto the warm chicken smash tacos and serve immediately.
- Spread the chicken mixture very thinly on each tortilla for the best smash burger texture.
- Assemble just before serving to keep the lettuce crisp and the croutons crunchy.
- Additional Caesar dressing can be added to taste.
- The grated egg is optional but adds extra richness and classic Caesar salad flavor.
