Description

This Philly-inspired hoagie features oven-roasted turkey, melted cheddar, warm stuffing, fresh veggies, and a sweet-tangy cranberry mayo drizzled with salt, oregano, and olive oil. Served on a sesame seed roll, it's a hearty and flavorful sandwich perfect for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll sesame seed hoagie roll split
  • 4 ounces oven roasted turkey breast thin sliced
  • 2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese sliced
  • 0.5 cups cooked bread stuffing mom's stuffing or homemade, warmed
  • 0.5 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 3 slices tomato sliced
  • 2 slices red onion thin
  • 0.3 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 0.3 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoons whole berry cranberry sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper cracked

Instructions

  • Make the cranberry mayo: Stir 3 tablespoons mayonnaise and 1 tablespoons whole berry cranberry sauce together in a small bowl until fully combined and streak-free. This is your cranberry mayo.
  • Warm the turkey and melt the cheddar: Warm 4 ounces oven roasted turkey breast, thin sliced on a griddle or in a skillet for a minute or two until heated through. In the last 30 seconds, lay 2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, sliced on top so it just starts to soften and melt into the turkey.
  • Warm the stuffing: Warm 0.5 cups cooked bread stuffing (mom's stuffing or homemade), warmed separately in a small pan or the microwave until heated through and slightly crisp at the edges.
  • Spread the cranberry mayo on the roll: Open 1 sesame seed hoagie roll, split and spread the cranberry mayo generously on both cut sides of the roll.
  • Build the base: Layer the warm turkey and melted cheddar into the roll, followed by the warm stuffing on top.
  • Add LTO and the SO/EVOO drizzle: Pile 0.5 cups shredded iceberg lettuce, 3 tomato, sliced, and 2 thin red onion slices on top of the stuffing. Sprinkle with 0.3 teaspoons kosher salt, 0.3 teaspoons dried oregano, and 0.5 teaspoons black pepper, cracked, then drizzle with 1 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling directly over the lettuce and tomato.
  • Close and slice: Close the sandwich, press down gently to compact the layers, and slice on a diagonal through the center to serve.

Notes

  • SO/EVOO is classic Philly hoagie shorthand for salt, oregano, and extra virgin olive oil - the dry seasoning-and-oil drizzle that goes straight onto the lettuce and tomato rather than the bread, so it doesn't make the roll soggy.
  • Warm the turkey and stuffing briefly (griddle, oven, or microwave) before building so the cheese melts slightly against them - that's what makes the inside look glossy and cohesive like the photo.
  • Build LTO and drizzle the SO/EVOO last, right before closing the sandwich, to keep everything crisp and cold against the warm turkey and stuffing.
  • For a true 50/50 cut like image 1, slice the roll on a hard diagonal through the center of the stack rather than straight down.
